Reviewed: Arcanil Paris' Liquid Matt Lipsticks, Mat Hysteria

Saturday, January 16, 2016

Matte lipsticks are my go-to lipstick formula. At least 80% of lipsticks collection is matte and in almost the same shade- a dusty rose. Does anyone else do that? It's a color I gravitate towards not only in a matte version but also glossy/semi-matte. I do own a handful of bold reds, bright corals, vibrant fuchsias and magnetic magentas but I always tend to lean towards the beautiful dusty rose.

Matte lipsticks can be awfully drying but thankfully, I haven't come across any to date. I hear my friends and magazine editors talk about applying a gorgeous matte lip color only to experience dry and flaky lips. They key I'd say is to do your research well and look into reliable brands that have established themselves within the beauty industry.

Almost every brand today has jumped on the matte lip color bandwagon and it's quite a delight to see the different and unique colors they concoct. I have my favorites and that list just grew with the addition of Arcancil Paris' latest, the new liquid matte lipsticks, Mat Hysteria.

The lipsticks come in a handy frosted matte casing along with a doe foot applicator. The consistency is surprisingly smooth and neither too thick nor too thin. The lip color glides on like silk and you pretty much need one swipe as they are quite pigmented. I absolutely love this about the Mat Hysteria. I don't have to go in the second time to acquire that punch of color.

The shades dry to a matte within seconds of application. Here's the best part- I didn't experience any dryness or flaking of the lips. The colors last for 6 hours straight- that's my experimentation duration (the brand states you can go up to 12 hours) and the darker shades withstood the test of food and drinks. I did, however notice minor fading but it wasn't noticeable and I didn't feel the need to touch-up.

Mat Hysteria is infused with avocado oil and hence, keeps the drying effect at bay. Featured from top to bottom are 220 Orange Flamenco- a punchy perfect for summer coral, 378 Mauve Oriental- this is my favorite out of the lot and an incredible mauve, 345 Rose Mambo- a rich pink with a hint of magenta, 515 Brun Twist- almost a milk chocolate brown and 405 Nude Ballerine- a subtle nude.

The 378 Mauve Oriental screams dont-mess-with-me and is perfect for a night out. For some odd reason, it reminds me of Morticia Addams from the Addams Family. She'd definitely have this color sitting on her makeup table. My least favorite is the 405 Nude Ballerine- it has a wash-out effect on me.

No makeup is complete without dressing the eyes. Arcanil's Trio Cabaret is a stunning mini palette from the Pierres Precieuses Collection (Precious Stones).

The palette illuminates the eyelids and is apt for the evenings. I feel this palette is apt for the winter season. Something about winter makes me lean on to more shimmery shades rather than pastels (which I reserve for the summer).

And to complete the look, there's the Volume Ooh Lala! mascara. This particular brush will coat every lash you have and fan them out. While Arcancil states the mascara delivers on volume, I say it's more of length that you will witness.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate that mauve lip color? Such an incredibly gorgeous color.

If you're on the lookout for new matte lipcolors, I recommend you test Arcancil's Mat Hysteria. They have more colors within the collection but try something different for a change, like the Mauve Oriental!
