Review: Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Matte Lipstick

My love for matte lipsticks started years ago when I was snooping around in my mum's beauty case. If that didn't take place, I don't think I would love matte finishes the way I do. While glossy is nice, matte is great. And when it is a non-drying matte, you know you've hit the jackpot.

Makeup brand, Bourjois released a collection of 8 liquid matte lipsticks known as Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet. This is the first time I ever try a 'liquid' lipstick with a matte finish.

The lipstick comes in the exact casing a lip gloss would- it has the same applicator as well. When I opened this, I was skeptical (remember, first time user of liquid matte lipsticks). Then I applied it and everything changed.

This pop of color, named Ping Pong is a vibrant fuchsia and goes on the lips effortlessly. It boasts of a feathery light velvet finish. I wore this for 2 hours straight and not once did it dry out.

The best thing about this lipstick has to be its long lasting feature. You might notice a slight transfer onto a glass or spoon while drinking/eating BUT my God- the lipstick is incredibly pigmented. It stays put until you decide to wipe it off!

I actually had a little trouble getting off the color completely when it was time to go to bed. I first used a tissue and wiped it off. It left a pretty stain on my lips.

Then I used Vaseline- the color faded a bit but not completely. I tried Clinique's Rinse Off Eye Makeup Remover (don't judge me, if it's delicate for the eye area, it's good enough for the lips) and Bioderma's famous makeup remover. I finally resorted to one of my favorite brands Clarins and used the Pure Melt Cleansing Gel. It is an oil based cleanser that managed to get off the color completely.

The moral of this incident is the fact that Bourjois' claim of a pigmented lipstick with a 24-hour hold is true. This lipstick won't disappoint- not when it comes to color, texture, finish or hold.

I absolutely love this lipstick and intend to check out 07 Nude and 01 Personne ne Rouge (a deep movie star red).
