The Food Byte: Red Star Wok, Dubai

Monday, February 9, 2015

It's always an awesome adventure when you stumble upon a new restaurant/cafe. There is an abundance of such in Dubai but to find one that checks off all boxes when it comes to food, quality, service and the likes, isn't easy. And it's always a hassle to zero in on what to have for lunch. I spend at least 30mins figuring that out, only to end up ordering from the same place I had 2 days ago.

I turned into a happy bunny when I discovered Red Star Wok. If you like Asian cuisine, you will want to give this place a go. Located in Jumeirah Lake Towers (JLT) and Business Bay, Dubai, the first branch operates as a takeaway and the other, dine-in & takeaway. I placed my order at the JLT branch and it came exactly at the anticipated time. I was quite delighted that the food was still warm when it arrived vs. order from other restaurants/cafes.

Being a fan of chicken and dumplings, I ordered the Chicken Pot Stickers as my appetizer, and Egg Fried Rice along with Crispy Chili Chicken as the main dishes.

Let me start off by saying that the Chicken Pot Stickers were delicious! These succulent chicken dumplings were cooked to perfection. Dipped in the black vinegar and ginger sauce, the dumplings were even more flavorsome.

The Egg Fried Rice and the Crispy Chili Chicken proved to be a gastronomic adventure. I was immediately transported to China when I started on this dish. Don't be discouraged by the chili in the Crispy Chicken Chili- it has a mild flavor and it won't burn your tongue.

The chicken is cooked in sweet chili sauce along with capsicum and celery but not before delivering that burst of sour and sweet through the pineapple chunks. It was crispy goodness all the way. I wish they uses less cooking oil, though.

The best part about Red Star Wok? All ingredients are organic and locally sourced where possible. The dishes are void of MSG and the menu includes gluten-free, vegetarian and seafood options. I absolutely love the variety of dishes available and I hear the Nasi Goreng is the dish to try!

I'm so glad my discovery didn't disappoint, it lived up to my expectations and I'm eyeing the Wonton Chicken Soup.

If you are looking for lunch or dinner options, try Red Star Wok this week. Let me know what you ordered!
